Meet the WorldLabs Team – Mel
Behind WorldLabs, there is a diverse and international team. We are a vibrant group of people with a shared vision: making a positive impact through our work.
Our UX designer, Mel, is working hard to create all the amazing visuals you see on the platform. We sat down to ask her a few questions in between creating illustrations and working on UX/UI Design.
Describe your role in 3 words?
Ambitious, creative, challenging!
Where were you born?
I was born in Macau. I came to England a while ago to study and have not looked back since.
Name a project you love on the WorldLabs platform
A project that I really like on the worldLabs platform is Pinkcollar. Pinkcollar is a Malaysian-based social business that strives to protect domestic workers around the globe. I got the chance to meet their co-founder Elaine Sim at our Elevating Ideas event in November. After pitching her project in front of a large audience you could tell that her project is really changing lives.
Name a project of yours that you are particularly proud of
I was very proud of my first animation for WorldLabs. The title was ‘Engage – Manage – Re-target’.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on improving the user experience throughout the WorldLabs platform. It’s really important that users can navigate the site with ease. I’m also playing around with some initial illustration ideas for the WorldLabs support pages as part of this process.
What do you love about your current role as a UX/UI Designer?
It is a challenging task to work in a startup because we are building everything from scratch. However, I love this role because it gives me lots of freedom to experiment in different areas, such as visual design, user experience, animation, coding and marketing etc. I’ve learnt so much and the experience has given me a full understanding of how a company works.
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs?
Be open-minded and able to change depending on what’s happening around you.
